Purple Canopy (Short Story Sunday) Prologue

Prologue

Life has it’s ups and it’s downs but sometimes what we think are ups are really down. Things aren’t always what they seem some of those bad things are actually good and some of those good things are actually bad. Problem is it so easy to read people and situations wrong. It’s so easy to trust a kind predator when you’re a loving prey.

-Ashana

Ashana sat on her canopy bed as the rain drop tapped against her window. She stared at her beige wall covered in cute little decals. That’s when it happened, that one thing that happens to everyone but no one openly admits it. She tried to block it out but lately the brain chatter seemed to be her only companion and her worst enemy. Standing up she stretched her short thick arms towards the ceiling before walkng to her Victorian style vanity table. Gazing over her makeup collection and checking her frame in the mirror. She froze in place before cracking a sinister smile.

Everyone thinks your sooo lucky Shana” She thought to herself as she slowly start to buff concealer on the blue and purple marks that tattooed her shoulders. Making herself up from head to toe. The tapping of the rain became more rapid. As she slipped into her silk robe. Moving from room to room she was a woman on a mission as she cleaned out all of the valuables. Storing them in a place that only she knew about.

“Shana”!!!!! Diana yelled out for her before letting out a piercing scream and running to look for her.

“What the fuck did you do”! Diana continued to yell has she grabbed her sister by that arm. Shana burst into tears as if she hadn’t cried enough.

The sirens sung as their lights painted the streets.

“my car is parked down the street, in it is a code where all of my things are” She said pushing her older sister into a secret passage way that lead outside.

The cops commanded her to come out as she made her way down the stairs. She slowly walked admiring the marble stairs with glass railing and the many paintings that caress the walls of her mini mansion.

You are so lucky shana” Her thoughts mimicked those of the people who wish to had been in her shoes. She stepped over Fuji’s body as his blood started to stain the cashmere white carpet.

“Mrs. Anderson you are…” Jason started to proceed with her arrest.

“Let’s stop the small talk, cuff me up and let’s go” Shana morbidly said to her ex-boyfriend as she turn around facing her back towards him. Jason grabbed her stepping towards then pushing her into the police car. She never lost sight of the house she had beautiful and horrible memories in.

“Mrs. Anderson” A tall model built woman walked towards her cell.

Ashana stood up off of her bunk looking at the woman as if she stole something from her.

“My name is Mina Johnson and I’m your attorney, I refuse to think you killed your husband without a reason” The woman pulled out a newspaper with the words

Business Tycoon Slayed by Trophy Wife” on the cover.

“Would you like to tell your side of the story” She said folding the paper into her brief case.

“Can you get me some coffee” Ashana asked as she folded her arms and shook her head.

Sitting down in the dark interrogation room. Shaking that sugar into her coffee before adding the creamer. Shana rested her back against the cold steel chair.

“This is going to be a long story so get comfortable” Ashana said before slipped her long bounce curl back into her bun as her big golden eyes started to tell a sad story before she even opened her mouth.

“It all started when”….
