Jayson- Chapter Six: Journey To The Past

Chapter Six: Journey to the Past

The sound of the rooster crowing is what woke her from her deep sleep. She couldn’t get what Ms. Effy told her yesterday. What could she have meant by something drastic was going to change in her life? She was wise in her age so one thing for sure was when Ms.Eff-lynn Blackwilt said something was going to happen you could bet your money on it.

“Tessa, would you stop day dreaming and get up, momma want us to go downtown and buy her them caramels she like so much” Lilly said standing her tall slender frame in the doorway with her hand on her wide hips.

Countessa rolled over and smothered her face into her pillow deeper. It was barely day break and their mother craving for sweets had already kicked in. Lilly grabbed her by the ankle and yanked her out of the bed. Being the first girl of the family she was made the boss of the house when their mother’s pregnancy caused her to become bedridden.

“If you hurry up we would have enough time to go to the lake and watch Trion and his friends fish” Lilly said knowing that Tessa would never pass up the chance to be around boys that they can actually look at. Being born in a household with 4 brothers a chance like this rarely came around.

…………………..

It was mid-summer and the crops flourished well that year so there were plenty of field work for the young men in Roseboro to do. Countessa being the thicker one of the two sisters switched her body from left to right as they strolled passed fields upon fields of whistling men.

From their house to the 1 cent store down town was all of a hour long walk and wearing a corset in 98 degree weather added a few more hours to what had originally only been a two hour walk to and from.

“What’s the use of your having that magic in you and you don’t even use it, if I had mines I would’ve zapped and whole pot of caramel right the middle of our kitchen and gotten some more sleep” Countessa said spinning her sun umbrella behind her.

“I wanted to get out the house, that’s why I didn’t do that, plus momma on like the caramel Mrs. Jameson makes” Lilly said with a slight attitude.

“You’re lying you just want to see that crazy Trion, Lil, I really don’t understand what you see in him but he makes my skin crawl” Countessa shivered causing Lilly to fold her arm and sigh.

………………

Mrs. Jameson was the towns best baker she made all the cakes and muffins, but what the town loved the most about her was the fact that she gave free caramels to all the pregnant women in the town and no one made caramels like she made caramels.

“Good Morning, Mrs.Jameson!” the girls chimmed as they walked in.

“Good Morning, Countessa and Lilly, your mother had been over due from collecting her caramels, but I saved them over there in that bag plus there’s a few more in there for you girls” She said point to a standard brown paper bag with Wilson written cross in bold letters.

That’s when it happen Countessa saw him. Standing tall, with the complexion of honey, and piercing hazel green eyes. She could tell he was new to town or driving through because she never seen him before but it felt like she was looking at an old friend. Countessa froze and for the first time ever she noticed all her flaws.

“Who is that” She blurted out causing Mrs.Jameson to jump a litte.

“Oh, child that’s just the one of the Willowbrook boys, they just moved here from South Carolina” Mrs. Jameson replied with a smirk on her face “He’s handsome isn’t he” She asked looking at Countessa gazing at him like he was a diamond or a ruby.

“Um, Yes Mrs’ Jameson, I’m sorry for getting out of character like that” Countessa said suddenly feeling like she embrassed her mother.

“Don’t worry I acted the same way when I first laid eyes on Mr.Jameson, now get along girls before the boys leave the fish hole at the lake”. Mrs. Jameson then pushed them out the found door.

……………………..

“Oh my God, Tessa, how can you act like that over a boy you don’t even know” Lilly scolded as the began to argue down the street.

When Countessa remembered she forgot her sun umbrella at the bakery. She ran back bumping right into the mystery guy as he walked out of the shoe store next to Mrs.Jameson’s Shop.

She jumped back..

“I’m so sorry” She exclaimed noticing she had made him drop the hat he was holding in his hand.

“It’s no problem” he replied meeting her half way to pick it up. They stood in silence for a few minutes staring at one another.

“C’mon Tessa”! Lilly yelled breaking the trance the both of them where in. Suddenly, Tessa grew nervous. When he smiled at her.

“My name is Jayson, Jayson Willowbrook” he said stretching out his hand.

“I’m Countessa, Countessa Wilson, Welcome to Roseboro” she said shaking her hand with his.

“I hope to see you around, Countessa”

“My friends call me Tess, Tessy or Tessa pick your favorite”

……………

Azania jumped out of her sleep. She looked around shaking. What kind of a dream did she just have. She asked herself has she jumped out of bed and wandered into the kitchen.

The Blackwilt sibilings finally went home around 4:30 in the morning and it was now 6:00. She started pacing backwards and forth. When the light switched on making her jump.

“Damn Sina, you like to scared the shit outta me” she yelled clutching on to her chest.

“Want some Caramel” Sina said causing Azania to act hysterically.
